Islands Archives is operated by Islands Historical Society and focuses on the social history and family genealogies particular
to Long and Brier Islands. Our information pertains primarily to the Loyalist families who arrived in our area after 1783. The
collection includes photographs, taped interviews and textual records relating to the Islands’ families work and social lives.
Numerous store ledgers from past businesses as well as records of fraternal organizations, such as the Macabees, Foresters, and
Rebekahs are held, in addition to published and manuscript form genealogies. Scrapbooks, dating from the 1880s to 2000 are available
as well as sea charts and maps. Genealogy records include information for local families such as Welch, Outhouse, Pugh, Stevens, Teed,
Ruggles, Prime, Titus, Haines, Payson, Bowers, Collins, Coggins, Denton and others. Original issues of “The Tiny Tattler”, [1933-1934, 1936-1943]
famous as the world’s smallest newspaper, as well as “The Freeport Gazette” are available, and our current local paper, Passages [1999-current day] are available.
